St Ives during ’07 was voted by The Guardian newspaper as the sea side town of the year and rightly so! Id like to explore with you some of the reasons this little piece of rugged coastline is so popular as a tourist destination attracting a high proportion of the total number of tourists visiting the beautiful County of Cornwall.

This article is aimed more toward the 1 st time visitor to the county of Cornwall and town of St Ives or someone just looking for more than a lay on the beach, perhaps you went as a child and went to the beach had an ice cream then moved on - this does happen and reminds me of a holiday I had to Summerset where we had just a week to see the entire County!

St Ives has more beaches than any I have ever been too and they are all in really close proximity to the town and one another. It provides a really easy walk between each, choose from Harbour, Porthgwidden, Porthmeor or Porthminster beaches - each have their own little quirks, though Porthmeor is probably the most popular beach and is a fantastic sunset evening stroll or a food settling walk? I recommend seriously considering if you visit here in the very peak of summer - it can be quite busy and of course sea side accommodation is in huge demand during these peak times.

St Ives might as well be the home of art within Cornwall, it’s alive with artists with every different style of creativity and has been a hub of activity for more years than I have been on this planet! I love the creative atmosphere throughout the town and the atmosphere created by the beauty of St Ives natural surroundings. St Ives is home to one of the most popular art galleries in the UK the very well known Tate gallery which is well worth a trek to - if only for the view at the Café and a quick bite to eat from their fantastic eatery!

I am a big fan of walking and Cornwall lets me truly get my walking legs on and walk till it’s time to come home for dinner! Whether it is a walk through the towns cobbled streets or a stroll along the fishing harbour laced with restaurants, cafes and bars or a trek from St Ives along the many different coastal walks at your disposal. I could’nt recommend enough walking to Hayle and 'St Ives Bay’.

Whether you are interested in art or not, walking or not or beaches or not - St Ives has so much more to offer any holiday makers and can’t be summed up in a single article but can be summed up in one word beautiful, I hope you enjoy your time in Cornwall.
